Our Spring Retreat for 2017 is April 5 – 7th at the McIntosh Inn in Morrisburg. There are 12 people signed up at this point and payment is due at the March 2017 General Meeting. Nancy has gone ahead and booked this venue for the next few years for the Fall & Spring Retreats. UPDATE: On Wednesday, April 5, 2017, ten Guild members and two guests arrived at the McIntosh Inn for three fun-filled days of quilting. There were lots of projects started and completed, as well as sharing of ideas and opinions. The staff were very attentive. The meals were excellent and served quickly to allow us all to get back to our quilting. (Nancy Jossinet) C
Due to the weather, this meeting has been changed to February 7, 2017 at the Lion’s Hall at 1 p.m. Here we are at the beginning of a new year and The President’s Challenge to celebrate Canada’s 150th Anniversary. The quilt that wins Viewer’s Choice will be traveling with the winning quilts from other guilds to all the quilt shows in 2017 as a special display honoring the Anniversary of Canada. We will also be having Leslie Whitby, current President of the CQA, with us as Guest Speaker. The Stash Sale, that has always been held in January, is being moved to our June General Meeting. There will be more time to shop at that time. C.
The Round Robin was a huge success, all the quilts were stunning. Nancy Jossinet did an awesome job organizing this activity & keeping us on our toes. We even met before the meeting at one member’s home so we could get a chance to see them in advance. You can see pictures of all 18 on our Facebook page. Members had an opportunity to sign up for a UFO Challenge that will be shown in June 2017. Our Fall Sale was a huge success with many thanks to the members that donated items and to those that worked it. All the blocks that members had signed out to do for the Outreach Quilt were brought in. Outreach is hoping to have it completed by February’s meeting. C
Zoe Lianga will be doing a Trunk Show and Workshop. She is a local fibre artist. I have seen some of her stunning wet-felted quilts. She offers lots of workshops in her home year round, and we are lucky to be getting her for a 3-hour workshop where she will show us how to make mittens. It may seem to be a fairly simple item, but it is only a starting point to so many bigger items once the method is learned.
Lots of sign-up sheets this month: Kits available for the Outreach Quilt (you have one month to complete), Consignment for the Fall Sale (some members want to sell their own items and 10% goes to the Guild), Sandwiches and Squares for the Fall Sale Luncheon, Christmas QT (cost of $15 includes lunch). Last chance to donate items for the Fall Sale. Christine Baker and Nellie Holmes will be our Trunk Show and presenting a workshop “Coast to Coast” that will be good for beginners and intermediate quilters. Sign-up sheets for November’s Workshop with Zoe Lianga, fibre artist that will be teaching us how to make wet-felted mittens. C
The President reminded members of the President’s Challenge and the due date of January 2017 meeting. Any snowbirds will have to get another member to bring theirs to the meeting for voting for Viewer’s Choice. Block of the Month showed the Rail Fence block. Library talked about how they have put our Library on line, and did it over the summer. Round Robin bags were exchanged again. One more exchange in October and in November, we get our quilts back. I am excited, I hope you are too. The Christmas QT is Wednesday, December 7, 2016. There will be a sign-up sheet in October. Still looking for items for our Fall Sale on November 12, 2016. There will be a sign-up sheet for this event as well for sandwiches and squares. A sign-up sheet for Consignment items at the Fall Sale will also be at the October meeting. The trunk show with Sherida Giddings was awesome and there are pictures posted on our Facebook page. C
