2015 CQA/ACC Trend-Tex Challenge

The 2015 Canadian Quilter’s Association (CQA/ACC) Trend-Tex Challenge is now open.

But do you know what the “Trend-Tex Challenge” is?  The people at Trend-Tex Fabrics Inc. donate bolts and bolts of 5 different fabrics. A CQA/ACC member purchases 5 fat quarters, and makes a small wall quilt based on the theme for the year. The quilt is sent to the Vice President of CQA/ACC who puts them on display at the annual Quilt Canada conference. Bidding through a silent auction allows visitors to purchase a quilt or two for their own.

This year’s theme is “Blowing in the Wind”.

The fabrics  for this year’s challenge can be previewed thanks to CQA’s blog (and that photo is copied here)

CQA “Walk to Brock” Challenge

This year’s challenge runs from Sept 1st to March 31, 2014.  The distance is 413,937,012 inches from Mile 0 in Victoria, BC to Brock University in St. Catherines, ON, the home of Quilt Canada 2014, via Inuvik, NWT.

Participating guilds across Canada are to report the total inches of the perameters of quilts shown at Show and Tell.

Report:  Our Guild had 4,966 inches measured from quilts at our Oct. meeting.  It would be very helpful if you could have the measurement ready when you sign up before the meetings at Show & Tell area.

At the November meeting 2,598 inches were measured and our Feb. 2014 meeting measurements of quilts totalled 2350 inches.

At our March show and tell quilts measured 2,637 inches.   CQA has thanked our Guild for the contribution of 4,189 inches reported from our April Show and Tell.   This is incredible ladies.  The May measurement will be awesome as many large quilts were brought in for Show and Tell.  Can’t wait to hear what it is.

The Walk to Brock is making good progress through the Prairies where the road is flat and straight.

Penticton Quilters Guild reported over 43,000 inches, mostly from one quilter who stitched almost half a mile.

The deadline has been extended to June 11, 2014 – the opening day of Quilt Canada.

At the May Show & Tell 5,885 inches were measured for a total of 24,000 inches contributed since the challenge started last September.  Thanks to everyone who participated in this challenge. Your completed quilts are your reward.

2013 CQA’s “How Far Can You Stitch”

Our guild participated in the 2013 CQA’s “How Far Can You Stitch” Challenge which ran from September 1 to February 28, 2013.  The goal is to measure the perimeter of all the finished quilts displayed at our Show and Tell and submit the total distance in inches each month.  Marie  has volunteered to be the “Inch Collector”.

CQA would like to see how far along the Trans Canada Highway we can stitch from St. John’s NFLD to Victoria, BC.  Did you know that the total distance is 307,929,600 inches?

Our Guild stitched 33,883 inches.
