2013 Meetings

Tuesday, June 25 at 6:00 pm – POT LUCK – Members to bring your favourite potluck dish to share along with a place setting ( plate, cup/glass, cutlery and placemat).  It is important to note on dish if it contains any allergens sugh as nuts, seafood, etc.

Tuesday, May 28th at 7:00 pm – we had a trunk show that  provided a preview of the “Out of Africa” quilt show in London, Ont.  Garnet Smalley blew us away with the wonderful works of art that the African quilters are producing.   These originally designs were heavily embellished with beading and the colors of fabric were so vibrant.  He brought a supply of batik fabrics for sale to the group and also had samples of African panels.  His “Out of Africa” quilt show in London takes place June 12-15 at the London International Quilt Festival, Grand Ballroom, Hilton Hotel, 330 King Street, London. ON.  Well worth the visit.  Also on display will be “The Tentmakers of Cairo”.

Tuesday, April 23rd at 7:00 pm – Susan Purney Mark will present her trunk show “On the Surface”.  She showed a very impressive wide range of techniques to transform fabric using dyes, painting, discharging and screen printing.  She creates batiks, and fabric using foiling, and dyeing with plants.  Susan is an author of four quilting books, dozens of quilt patterns and magazine articles, as well as a quilt judge and quilt appraiser.  She is a very busy lady.

Tuesday, March 26th at 7:00 pm –  Guest speaker Bethany Garner will present a SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) Exhibit.

Tuesday, February 26 at 12:00 noon – (Bring your Lunch)  “Heritage Day and Hand Piecing” trunk show.  Marie Amyott will present hand pieced items by Guild members and others.

Tuesday, January  22 – at NOON – January’s trunk show was by Mary Ewing who is the Eastern Canada Coordinator for Quilts of Valour Canada.  May explained the QOV Mission which is to ensure that our injured Canadian Soldiers are recognized for their bravery and commitment of the true patriotism to our country.  QOV gives this support through the presentation of quilts comfort made for our military service people.  QOV Canada started in early 2006 with the presentation of quilts to three seriously injured soldiers who were recovering from injuries sustained in Afghanistan.  For further information visit their website at www.QuiltsOfValour.ca.
